Star Apprentice 2023: Semra Ceviz – an inspiring story of commitment and success
We are delighted to tell you about a remarkable story from our own ranks: our apprentice Semra Ceviz has proven to be a real inspiration for commitment and success. At the age of 25, Semra is in the second year of her apprenticeship as she trains to become an office management assistant at our sister company Karl Gemünden. Her extraordinary journey from Altıntaş, in the Kütahya Province of Turkey, to Germany is an impressive example of determination and passion.
Semra’s story began with her deep fascination with German culture and literature. At the start of 2022, she took the bold step of leaving her native Turkey to experience German culture up-close. She originally thought she would return to Turkey after a year, but as she says herself, she has found a new home in Germany. She was fascinated by the opportunities available to her here. The construction company Gemünden presented her with one of the biggest opportunities by offering her an apprenticeship to train as an office management assistant.
Particularly impressive is the fact that Semra managed to obtain her C1 certificate in the German language within a very short space of time. The support offered by German courses organised by Gemünden, enabled her to quickly improve her language skills. The informal atmosphere and the cohesion within the company have especially shaped her training journey. Besides the office-based work, she has also had the opportunity to work on construction sites, enabling her to experience first-hand how her office knowledge is put into practice.
Yet Semra’s commitment goes far beyond her professional role. Since 2019, she has been a volunteer in two associations in Turkey, where she helps people with physical and mental disabilities to apply for benefits to which they are often unaware they are entitled. She also helps visually impaired students to prepare for exams by reading questions to them and supporting them. Justice is a matter especially close to her heart, which is why she compares the laws for people with disabilities in Germany with those in and Turkey and advocates for changes to be made in Turkey.
The challenge of continuing her volunteer work in Germany is one Semra has mastered with aplomb. She has set up online video meetings so that she can still offer her valuable support. Her life story is an impressive reminder that passion and commitment cannot be limited by distance or circumstances.
The special nature of Semra’s story is evident in her clear aim: to win the title of ‘Star Apprentice 2023’. Besides wishing to celebrate her personal development, she also wants to be an ambassador for other young people who want to follow their dreams. Semra is living proof that determination and hard work can open doors and create opportunities that previously seemed unthinkable. Her advice for anyone who has similar dreams: ‘If you really want something, you can quickly learn and make progress. Because if you sleep now, you will only dream. But if you learn now, you will live your dream.’
We invite you to vote for Semra Ceviz as our Star Apprentice for 2023 and celebrate her inspiring story with us. Semra embodies the values of the Gemünden/Molitor group of companies and is a prime example of commitment, willingness to learn and integration.
