Wormser Straße: A residential complex right by the Rhine in Mainz

The property

On Wormser Straße in Mainz-Weisenau, a residential complex offering extensive and inviting space is being built on the site of the former Rheinische Brauerei. Around 200 residential units and roughly 160 underground parking spaces will be developed here.

The complex will feature a successful combination of existing traditional brewery buildings and modern architecture, picking up on elements of the site’s industrial character and interpreting them in a contemporary way. The construction site has some unique aspects, such as its topography with an elevation difference of around 16 metres and the roughly 30,000m² of cellar space in the existing buildings. The topography is being used to create high-quality neighbourhood squares by means of terracing and generate a fantastic view facing the Rhine for the residential units. The historic main building is being preserved and lovingly renovated to create a stylish residential building.

It is an extraordinary residential complex that successfully fuses the industrial past with modern housing.

The location

One particular feature of this residential complex is its proximity to the Rhine. Being located directly on Wormser Straße, the river is within reach. Due to its elevated position, the site affords fantastic views of green spaces as well as the opposite side of the Rhine, partly stretching even as far as the Taunus mountain range. It is not just the existing buildings that have historical roots. The history of the Mainz-Weisenau district, which was incorporated in 1930, dates back to the sixth millennium BC. Typical medieval flair can be found in many places. Whether in the narrow, winding streets or the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the landmark of Mainz-Weisenau, all of this makes for a familiar and harmonious setting.
