With a double pioneering achievement, Innovationspark Mainz GmbH & Co. KG is giving the green light for the construction of the new Mainz biotech and life science campus. “LAB 1 is not only the opening building of this pioneering location, it will also set new standards with its particularly sustainable construction,” emphasizes Tina Badrot, Managing Director of J. Molitor Immobilien GmbH, which has merged with G.L. Kayser Immobilien GmbH and IGM Immobilien Gesellschaft Mainz mbh to form Innovationspark Mainz GmbH & Co. KG. The common goal: to quickly create an attractive offer for research institutes and innovation-driven companies in the fields of biotechnology and life science with the “InnovationLabz”<\/strong> laboratory and office space. <\/p>\n

The importance of this starting signal was demonstrated at today’s groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by Prime Minister Malu Dreyer, Minister of Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt and Minister of Science Clemens Hoch, as well as Mayor Nino Haase and a large part of the Mainz city council, including Mayor G\u00fcnter Beck, Head of the Department of Construction Marianne Grosse and Head of the Department of Economic Affairs Manuela Matz.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Malu Dreyer: “Here in Mainz, a campus is to be built that will allow the innovation potential in biotechnology and the life sciences to take a big leap forward. LAB 1 is the first important step in this process. New laboratories and meeting places will be created here, a breeding ground for new collaborations. Short distances, the direct interaction of bright minds and a real close collaboration between science and business – this is possible here in close proximity to the university, university hospital, college and non-university research. We want to develop Rhineland-Palatinate into a leading location in biotechnology and establish it internationally in the long term.”<\/p>\n

The first anchor tenant for the 3,000 m\u00b2 laboratory and office building LAB 1, planned by Ries + Ries Architects Engineers, has already been confirmed: it is the Norwegian medical products company Lifecare AS from Bergen, which signed the contract with Innovationspark Mainz GmbH & Co. KG just last week. “We are already in final talks with other companies and research institutes willing to settle here,” says Edmund Schmitz, Managing Director of G.L. Kayser Immobilien GmbH.
